Documents/Literature:

- *Scribner, Benjamin F. (Col. 38th Indiana): How Soldiers Were Made (Blue Acorn, 316 pp, Index, Reprint of 1887 original). Scribner relied on his field officer's experience in the 38th Indiana as well as his command of the 14th Corps as a General to write his memoirs. He began his military career as a volunteer in the Mexican War and went on into the Civil War in the trenchs at Kennesaw Mountain. Overtaken by ill health during the Atlanta Campaign, he was forced to resign. He provides keen insight into how the enlisted men and officers evolved into veteran soldiers.
